Day 12 of the #GroundMovement #MovNatChallenge2017 is the back roll lead by @berndreicheneder. For more info on the challenge check out @movnat!

The back roll is a movement that should be explored with care and control. The most important thing is to #ProtectYaNeck and make sure you are rolling on your shoulder and not compressing your neck or head. One thing you can do is turn your head and tuck your chin like you are trying to smell your arm pit!

If you turn your head toward the same shoulder as where your legs are going you can also see where you're going. Try to maintain spacial awareness. If your arms are on the ground when you roll, keep the palm down so you can pick things up on the way.

In this clip I am working up to a no handed back roll. This would be useful if I was holding something delicate, but it is more advanced and you should have full control over a slow regular roll without any undue pressure on your neck before trying it like this.

Working to establish a better position; when it comes to handstands, I seldom emphasise the duration of the handstand, rather, I seek to feel through the various sensations to help guide me into the best possible position. Once I feel I have touched that place where all feels connected, switched on and in tact then I aim to develop longer holds. In this space concentration and focus need to be razor sharp or I just end up coming out and having to start all over again.
