Something I've noticed is I've seen the exact same people at the gym I saw over two years ago doing the exact same thing, the exact same exercises, the exact same intensity, still spending most of their time on the phone. 11/fuken10 session today.
Few things I've noticed as I'm now consistently eating at a larger surplus and gaining more rapidly:
1)sessions are more than awesome. I'm amped to train all the time, and I actually need my rest days. Intensity is pretty out the roof compared to only a month ago, and I don't even need a second session before increasing weight on every single lift (ie. squats were 145x4x6 wednesday, 155x4x8 saturday.)
2)my mood is 200% better, and so is sleep, accessorily helping tons with recovery.
3)my appetite is decreasing which isn't great, but my food focus is as well which is a win. I usually track macros (fading away) but haven't weighed a single thing logged in a while. "EyeballThatYoullBeAccurate".
4)my weight doesn't move nearly as much when I randomly decide to down a ton more food.
5)I'm progressively realizing that phases at a higher bodyfat are almost essential in your lifting career (especially early on). Unlike what everyone preaches these days, there is some merit to "bulk up" to some extent in your teens. While staying leaner in a gaining phase always pays off as you get more experienced, your 1-3 first years are when you pack on the most size, and getting abs is way easier than gaining muscle at any stage of life. I think we teens shouldn't always listen to what 'science' says or people preach as more 'optimal ways to do things'. Looking at top bodybuilders, enhanced or not, and even that buff dude in your gym, all the truly impressive lifters have had a phase in their life where they watched the scale increase fast as hell and said, laughing, "I must be making hella gains".
