“French Quarter Fables”
Dalt Wonk’s self-illustrated works are a remarkable example of what can be created from simply observing your surroundings. When you live in New Orleans it’s easy to see how incredibly kooky and colorful things are, especially during Carnival season. How can you possibly explain that brilliance to those who only admire and never partake? For some, you let the art tell the story.
Wonk has lived in New Orleans since the 1970s as a playwright, poet, and an illustrator. His time as a resident in the Vieux Carré and admiration for the unusual are visibly expressed in his collection. .
