My ladies. My friends. My family.
Whatever it is you stand for, stand up. Don't let these trying times get you down, or make you feel like you aren't heard... you are. We will get through this MASSIVE meltdown of true American values- but not without a heap load of trying times, difficult choices, and tough interactions. Just know that we only must stand together to make a true difference. Flying to the east coast to march is a no brainer for me. To be honest with you, there are a lot of reasons why... but the one that stands out in my mind is that my parents instilled in me that every person deserves a chance. I march for my future unborn daughter to hopefully be looked at for her intelligence, tenacity, and creativity. Not the color of her skin, age, gender, sexual orientation or otherwise. Stand up. Rise up. Be better. Be the change you want to see. Be the hope that others who can't stand up truly need. Call your congress representative, tell them what you want... after all, they work for you. Cheers to all my people who are able to be there this weekend, and for the rest of you who can't, we march for you. βš–οΈβš“οΈπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸ‘†πŸΌ#whyimarch

β€’ #whyIMarch I march because I do not see the world in black or white. I see it in all of its beautiful, varying shades of reds, browns, yellows, and purples. I march because #BLACKLIVESMATTER, because #WATERISLIFE, because #CLIMATECHANGE is real, because #DACA, because #ACA, because #FLINT, because #ALEPPO, because #LOVEISLOVE. β€οΈπŸ’›πŸ–€
β€’ I march as a Family Physician who serves to expand and protect equal access to healthcare for all of my patients: women, children, young, old, men too, and the LGBTQ, immigrants, refugees, rural and underserved, the born and the unborn. Medicine and an individual’s health is not black or white, it is LIFE OR DEATH, and as long as there is not equal access to healthcare, there is no place for law and government to make uninformed, uneducated decisions on the health of individuals and communities that they have not yet begun to understand. πŸ‘©πŸ½β€βš•οΈπŸ˜·πŸ€’
β€’ Finally, I march because I continue to believe in and operate on the #HOPE and #CHANGE that sparked a movement 8 years ago towards a more inclusive, equal America. I march to stand alongside other World Citizens who will gather in over 300 marches Worldwide as a statement that the President-Elect and the language, behavior, and lack of moral and ethical values does not represent me or the America I want to live in. I march because I will work to continue to make this be a better America and World for our future generations. 🌎🌍🌏#WomensMarchWednesday #marchonmain

It's time to start listening more ... #Repost @womensmarch with @repostapp
Today's #ActivistAday features myself, ShiShi Rose (@shishi.rose) and I am one of the admins here.
For some people, their outlook of this country deeply changed on November 9th. For the rest of us, this is how it has always looked.

I want to remind you that that is a privilege.

It's a privilege that white supremacy wasn't at the forefront of your reality, because you benefit from it.

I want to remind you that no ally ever got very far, in any movement, without acknowledgement of their own privilege daily. You do not just get to join the efforts that people of color have been working for their entire lives to both teach and survive, without doing work, too. You don't just get to join because now you're scared, too. I was born scared.

Now is the time for you to be listening more, talking less, spend time observing, taking in media and art created by people of color, researching, and unlearning the things you have been taught about this country. You should be reading our books and understanding the roots of racism and white supremacy. Listening to our speeches. You should be drowning yourselves in our poetry. Now is the time that you should be exposed to more than just the horrors of this country, but also the beauty that has always existed within communities of color. Beauty that was covered over because the need to see white faces depicted was more important.

Now is the time to teach your children, to call out your family, to finally speak up. You have been silent for long enough. Now is the time to realize that you should have joined us sooner. But since you're here now, it's time to get to work.

We believe that Women's Rights are Human Rights and Human Rights are Women's Rights. We must create a society in which women...are free and able to care for and nurture their families, however they are formed, in safe and healthy environments free from structural impediments. - @womensmarch #unityprinciples . You are not perfect.
You are not better.
You are not superior.
You are not even intrinsically different.
We all need the same things.
We are all mass of chromosomes and feelings.

Ask for more. We deserve more & better. More respect, more kindness, more time on our planet, more leaders that inspire progress.
We deserve to move fwd and evolve into highly spiritual beings that see no colors, borders or differences.
Work for it. Don't settle. Don't give up. Get educated on what is happening. Create. Get involved.
Our present & future is in our hands, let's shape it.

"Freedom is never really won. You earn it and win it in every generation." - Coretta Scott King. I'm sharing an πŸ’ͺ🏼 ACTIVIST A DAY πŸ’ͺ🏼 from my book this week leading up to the Women's March, to inspire you in that there are many ways to be an activist. No better person to kick it off with than Mrs. King, who led the Civil Rights Movement alongside her husband Martin Luther King, Jr. Among her many achievements, she created and hosted over 30 Freedom Day Concerts that fundraised for the cause. πŸ‘ŠπŸΌ Read more in #badgirlsthroughouthistory #corettascottking #whyimarch

NELLIE BLY is today's activist. As a new journalist, she went undercover in an insane asylum and wrote an exposΓ© on the inhumane treatment of the patients, which resulted in a grand jury awarding $850k for hospital overhauls and changing the way doctors were allowed to diagnose and commit patients. Your words and actions can do a whole lot. Read more of her incredible story in #badgirlsthroughouthistory. #nelliebly #whyimarch

πŸ’ͺ🏼Activist a DayπŸ’ͺ🏼 MARGARET SANGER. Founder of Planned Parenthood and leader on women's reproductive freedom. After nursing women who suffered from severe health complications bc of illegal abortions, Sanger sought to make birth control info accessible to all women. First she wrote a newspaper column giving basic women's health info, but it was blocked as indecent by the censors. Then she opened the nation's first birth control center and supported the development of the pill - which is known as the most important invention of the 20th century. Her work gave most of us modern women the freedom to choose the lives we want to live - honor her work and hold the line on freedom by donating, volunteering, or voting to support @plannedparenthood. @lenadunham also produced a great video about the last 100 years of PP that you can watch on Facebook.com/NowThisHer. Gearing up my Grace Lee Boggs tribute poster with @politicalgridlock_ for the @womensmarch on Saturday in Oakland. I'm marching because I cannot stand by while the right to affordable healthcare for all is stripped away from hundreds of thousands of Americans. I'm marching for the end to domestic and dating violence against femmes, now that "grabbing her by the pussy" is becoming normalized as locker room talk by the man who holds the most respected position in office. I'm marching so that the principle of which our country is founded on remains intact by the allowance of immigrants and refugees to set foot on American soil and be treated with decency and respect. I can go on and on but as I sit here at this nearly empty bar trying to identify why it is I feel urged to take a day off work to march in solidarity with my fellow sisters on the day after the inauguration of this fascist clown of a president, these three themes come to mind. Hope y'all will join with me.
