It's soup season and this show cooker recipe is of our favorites - creamy chicken rice soup.

Recipe at tiphero.com/creamy-chicken-wild-rice-soup

½ Cup uncooked wild rice
½ Cup uncooked basmati rice
1-½ lb. chicken breast
1 Cup onion, diced
1 Cup carrot, diced
¾ Cup celery, diced
4-5 cloves garlic, minced
1-2 bay leaves (depending on strength)
6 Cups low sodium chicken broth
2 Cups water
1 tbsp. Italian seasoning
1-½ tsp. Black pepper
2 tsp. salt
5 tbsp. butter
½ Cup all purpose flour
2 Cups whole milk

Rinse the rice under running water. In a 5-½ qt. slow cooker, place uncooked rice, chicken breast, onions, carrots, celery, garlic, bay leaf, chicken broth, water, italian seasoning, salt and pepper. Cover and cook on high for 4 hours or on low for 7-8 hours. Remove chicken from pot during the last 30 minutes of cooking. Allow to cool slightly then shred with two forks.

Add the chicken back to the slow cooker and continue cooking vegetables through. Melt butter in a small saucepan.

Add the flour and cook for one minute. Whisk the mixture slowly while adding the milk, whisking to remove all lumps and until sauce has thickened and become creamy.

Add the bechemel sauce to the slow cooker, stirring to combine. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper. Let sit 5 minutes, soup will thicken as it stands.

What better to serve your ice cream or yogurt or fruit in than a bowl made of chocolate?! And these elegant edible bowls are surprisingly easy to make.
More at tiphero.com/chocolate-bowls

2 cups chocolate chips (white, dark, milk, or semisweet), divided

Using a microwave and in a microwave-safe bowl, melt ¾ of the chocolate chips in 30-second intervals, stirring after each interval, until the chocolate is completely melted and smooth.

Add in the remaining chocolate chips and stir together until all of the chocolate is melted and smooth. If needed, return to the microwave and heat in 10-second intervals, until the chocolate is just melted.

Line the outsides of the bowls you want to use as molds with either wax paper, foil or parchment paper. (If using foil, spray with a little non-stick spray after wrapping the bowls.) Place the bowls upside-down on a sheet pan lined with parchment paper or wax paper.

Transfer the melted chocolate to a pastry bag or a zip-top bag. Cut a small hole in the tip of the pastry bag or zip-top bag. Test the size of the hole by squeezing a little chocolate out to make sure that it is flowing easily and in even lines. If the lines are squiggly, cut a slightly larger hole from the end of your bag.

Squeeze chocolate over the lined bowls, one at a time, in a loopy, overlapping pattern, until you have covered the surface of the bowl molds. Make sure to use a lot of overlapping lines. The pattern should look delicate, but if it is too delicate, the bowls will break easily.

Repeat the process until all of the molds are covered. To make the bottoms of the bowls flatter and to help them sit upright, either pipe an overlapping ring on the bottom of each of the bowl molds, or gently place a piece of flat plastic on the top of each bowl mold (i.e. what will be the bottom of each chocolate bowl) after finishing piping.

Leave the chocolate bowls to set at room temperature for at least an hour.

Store chocolate bowls in a plastic container for several weeks in a cool place. Use to serve your favorite cold desserts and/or fruit.

Start with a little bacon, add onion and garlic and ground beef and pork, then sprinkle in rice and cabbage and you are on your way to a satisfyingly delicious cabbage roll soup. So good!

Wow friends and family with this easy to make, but super cool pepperoni pizza crown!
Full recipe at tiphero.com/pepperoni-pizza-crown

1 pound pizza dough, store bought or homemade, brought to room temperature
1 cup mozzarella cheese, divided
½ cup marinara sauce
¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese, divided
½ cup chopped pepperoni (about 30 to 40)

Preheat the oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit (230 degrees Celsius). Line a 12-inch round pizza pan or cookie pan with parchment paper and dust with flour.

On the lined pizza pan, press the pizza dough into a circle the size and shape of the pizza pan. If the dough resists being stretched, allow it to rest for 10 to 15 minutes covered in plastic wrap, then stretch the dough a second time. Using a pizza cutter or knife, cut 8 small triangular slices in the center of the dough, leaving about a 3-inch border on the outside. Set aside.

In a bowl, combine ⅔ cup of the mozzarella cheese, the marinara sauce, 3 tablespoons of the Parmesan cheese, the chopped pepperoni and the Italian seasoning. Mix to combine.

Spread the pizza filling on the uncut 3-inch border of dough, leaving about a ½-inch border on the outside. Add the remaining mozzarella cheese to the top of the filling.

Wrap each center triangle of dough over the filling, towards the edge, and secure under the outer edge of the dough. Adjust the ring if needed to ensure a nice round pizza crown.

In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, garlic powder, and dried parsley, and stir to combine. Brush the top of the crown with half of the melted garlic herb butter.

Bake for about 15 to 20 minutes, or until the dough turns golden brown.

When there are about 5 minutes of baking left, temporarily remove the crown from the oven and place the whole pepperoni on the openings between the triangles of pizza dough, where the melted cheese is showing through. Return the crown to the oven and bake with pepperoni on top for the last 5 minutes, until the pepperoni begin to curl.

Remove the baked crown from the oven and immediately brush the top with the remaining garlic herb butter and sprinkle with the rest of the finely-grated Parmesan cheese.

Serve warm.

You'll think twice about tossing orange peels after trying this candied orange peel recipe.

4 navel or Valencia oranges
2 cups water, plus more for boiling
2-½ cups white granulated sugar, divided
½ cup dark chocolate chips, melted (optional)

Rinse the oranges.

Cut off the tops and bottoms of each orange, and score the skin into quarters.

Remove the peel, along with any pith that is attached. Slice the orange peel into ¼-inch-wide strips. If desired, trim any excess pith off using a paring knife.

Place the strips of orange peel in a large saucepan and cover with cold water. Heat the saucepan on high heat and bring to a boil.

Remove from the heat, drain the water from the peels, and repeat the boiling process twice more. Set the boiled orange peel aside.

Pour the 2 cups of water and 2 cups of sugar into a medium saucepan, and stir to combine. Bring the sugar water to a simmer.

Add the boiled strips of orange peel to the simmering sugar water and cook for 45 minutes to 1 hour, adjusting the heat as necessary to maintain a simmer, until translucent. Avoid stirring, as this will encourage crystallization. If necessary, gently swirl the pan to make sure all the peels get covered with syrup.

Drain any remaining syrup from the orange peels. Spread the peels out on a baking sheet lined with lightly-greased wax paper or a silicon baking mat, and allow the peels to cool enough to handle.

Sprinkle the orange peels with the remaining ½ cup of sugar and toss to combine.

If desired, once the candied orange peel has cooled and dried, dip each piece in the melted chocolate and allow to cool on a parchment-lined baking pan until the chocolate is set.

Candied bacon anyone?
Add a little a maple syrup and brown sugar to this breakfast staple for a sweet, salty crunch.

Recipe: tiphero.com/how-to-make-candied-bacon/

Makes 10 to 16 pieces
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Total Time: 35 minutes

1 pound (10 to 16 slices) bacon
⅓ cup maple syrup
½ cup brown sugar
Ground black pepper, to taste (optional)
Cayenne pepper, to taste (optional)

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (200 degrees Celsius). Line a baking pan with aluminum foil, and another baking sheet with parchment paper.Place the slices of bacon on a greased wire rack, and place the wire rack on the foil-lined baking pan.Brush the top of the bacon with the maple syrup, and sprinkle with the brown sugar. If using, sprinkle the bacon with the ground black pepper and cayenne pepper.Place a second greased wire rack upside-down on top of the bacon. Doing so will help prevent the bacon from curling during cooking.Bake for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, remove the second wire rack and flip the bacon. Brush the fresh sides of the bacon with more maple syrup, sprinkle with more brown sugar, and season with additional black pepper and cayenne pepper, if using.Bake for another 10 to 15 minutes, or until the bacon reaches your desired level of crispiness. Watch closely during the last 15 minutes, since the sugar can begin to burn if cooked too long. If needed, lower the oven temperature to allow the bacon time to crisp before getting too dark.Remove the bacon from the oven, and let the cooked bacon cool for 5 minutes.Remove the bacon from the wire rack, so that it does not begin to stick, and place on the parchment-lined baking sheet to continue cooling. Wait until the candied bacon is at room temperature before serving.

The holidays may be over, but we are not over cookies like these chocolate cherry cookies. Yum!
Recipe: tiphero.com/chocolate-cherry-thumbprints/

1 cup flour
⅓ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
¼ cup brown sugar
¼ cup sugar
¼ teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
⅓ cup butter, melted
1 egg, room temperature
2 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

½ cup granulated sugar
½ cup powdered sugar
1 cup cherry pie filling

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius).
Line 3 baking sheets with parchment paper or a silicon baking mat.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, ¼ cup brown sugar, ¼ cup sugar, baking powder, and salt until well-combined.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the melted butter, egg, milk and vanilla extract until well-combined.
Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
Portion and roll the cookie dough into 1 inch balls, about 1 scant tablespoon each.
Allow the balls of cookie dough to chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes to 1 hour.
Roll the balls of chilled cookie dough in the ½ cup of granulated sugar and set aside until all the cookie dough balls are sugared.
Roll the sugared cookie dough balls in the ½ cup of powdered sugar, making sure to coat thoroughly, and place on the lined baking sheets.
Using your thumb or the back of a teaspoon, make a “thumbprint” indention in the center of each cookie dough ball to leave room for cherry pie filling. Do not press completely through the cookies. Repeat this process with the remaining dough.

Bake the coated and indented cookies for 10 to 12 minutes.
Remove the cookies from the oven and, if needed, press the centers of the cookies again to redefine the indentations.
While the cookies are still warm, spoon a cherry and a small amount of filling into each of the “thumbprint” indentations.
Remove the cookies from the baking sheets and allow to cool completely on a cooling rack.

Here's a fun and tasty side dish - roasted potatoes. Yum!

Printable Recipe: tiphero.com/easy-roasted-potatoes/

5 pounds yukon gold or yellow potatoes (large), washed and dried

3 tablespoons rendered bacon fat or unsalted butter, melted

3 tablespoons olive oil

1 small onion, peeled

1 tablespoon salt, or to taste

½ teaspoon ground black pepper

½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)

8 sprigs thyme (optional)

About 4 ounces bacon, small dice

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

Heat a 10 inch cast iron skillet over medium heat and cook the diced bacon until nicely browned and crispy. Remove the bacon to drain on paper
towel and save the rendered bacon fat to brush on the potatoes later (if you
like you can use butter instead or if you do not have enough bacon fat you
can make up the difference with butter or more olive oil). With mandoline or a sharp knife, steady hand, and patience slice potatoes crosswise into 1/8th inch thick slices. Transfer slices to a large mixing bowl.

Repeat the slicing process with the small onion and separate out the
concentric circles of the onion. Add the onion rings to the bowl with the
potato slices.

Mix the potato and onion slices with olive oil, salt, pepper, and crushed red
pepper flakes, if using, until well combined.

Arrange potato and onion slices vertically in your cast iron skillet. Once the skillet if filled with potato and onion mixture, brush the top of the mixture with rendered bacon fat or melted butter.

Bake 1 hour and 15 minutes. Once potatoes are beginning to brown, add
thyme (if using) and bake until potatoes are cooked through and the tops of the potatoes are crisp and golden brown (about 15-20 more minutes). #recipe #recipes #foodvideo #foodvideos #goodeats #homecooking #sides #sidedish #yum #instayum #instafood #foodporn
